Letting Go

Have you guys ever heard that saying… “If you love something, let it go”?

I don’t know about you, but I always find that letting go is easier said than done. A little annoying when someone tells you “Just let it go”… right?

When I really want something, whatever it may be, it’s comes naturally for me to hold on tighter. But then, often… I’ll squeeze the damn thing right out of my hands.

Like it or not, letting go is actually like magic sauce to finally getting what you want. I bet you’ve experienced this too… like finding love when you finally stop looking for it. Or finding that item you were looking all over for, as soon as you stopped looking.

So here’s a little tip for letting go, tested by yours truly: the trick is finding the confidence that you’re going to be OK with or without that thing you so desperately want.

It becomes a lot easier to “let go” when you trust that things will work out, even if it’s not how you expected.

When you let go of your expectations, you make room for even better stuff to fall in your lap.

Having healthy self-esteem means noticing your human imperfections, and loving yourself anyway.

Healthy self-esteem is essential to happiness.

You don’t have to be perfect to deserve your own love and understanding. If you wait for perfection, you’ll be waiting forever.

As humans, we’re imperfect by definition. All of us. We make mistakes, we take time to change, and we can’t control everything.

So… Don’t be too hard on yourselves. Ok? You’re exactly where you need to be.

Two Happiness Skills

Two big happiness skills to practice: awareness and persistence.

You’ve gotta notice negative thoughts when they show up, and be persistent about debunking them when they do.

I don’t think our inner critic ever fully goes away… it’s a part of us. Actually, it can be pretty useful sometimes.

But even though we can’t erase it, we CAN choose our response to it.

When that little voice in your head says “GROSS” as you look in the mirror, you have to talk back. Like… “That’s not very nice, little voice. I look freaking gorgeous, but thanks anyway!!”

Strengthen your ability to talk back, and you’ll be happier in no time.
